Replacing a windscreen used to be straightforward. On many modern cars it is not, because the forward facing camera that runs lane keeping and emergency braking is mounted to the glass. Move the glass, and you move the camera.
Why the camera has to be recalibrated
When the old windscreen comes out and a new one goes in, the camera's position shifts, even slightly. Until it is recalibrated to the maker's specification, the safety systems may not see the road correctly.
What to ask when you get a windscreen replaced
- Does my car have a camera mounted on the windscreen?
- Will the camera be recalibrated as part of the job?
- Will I get a calibration report for my records?
- Is the calibration done in house or sent elsewhere?
We do both, under one roof
